Alexander and Polly Hamilton, both practising artists for many years, had often talked of opening their own exhibition space. When ArtMapArgyll was started, they participated in the open studios weekends. Over one weekend 60 people treked up the track. Spurred on by this interest they realised that the space at the end of Alexanders studioworkshop was not really ideal.
Mouldering gently away across the yard was the Victorian Barn, a much discussed space, how best to use it being the principle topic! A studio workshop was the front runner, but the amount of stuff being stored in it had proved daunting. UNTIL, their daughter Kate, an accomplished craft worker, put words in to action and organised the clearing and disposal of the accumulated junk, hosing down and painting, and Studio Barn Argyll was born. The resultant space has been a revelation and much praised by visiting artists and those adventuring up the forest track to the farm.
The exhibitions will feature work by Alexander Hamilton, Polly Hamilton and Kate MacDonald and guest artists with examples of work by local craft workers.
The story of the conversion from Storage Barn to Studio Barn can be found on our blog.
